Question: I am 35 and would like to go for circumcision. How long will it take me to heal and resume my office work? Amos

Dear Amos,

Circumcision is the surgical removal of the skin covering the tip of the penis. The procedure is fairly common for newborn boys in certain parts of the world.

But it is also common these days for adults in our country because it has been found to reduce on the risk of contracting Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), especially HIV/AIDS.

Healing following circumcision takes about seven to 10 days. The tip of the penis is likely to be sore at first, and the penis might look red, swollen or bruised. You may notice a small amount of yellow fluid on the tip of the penis as well.

Complete healing occurs after about 42 days (six weeks). Talk about resuming sexual intercourse, if you are married. Work can be resumed the following day after circumcision, as long as pain is managed adequately.

Personally, I was circumcised while at University, and I remember continuing with my studies immediately.
