The Lord once said: “For I will defend this city, to save it for My own sake and My servant David’s sake” (2Kings 19:34).

In the history of Israel, there was a time of crisis when nothing could save them from their mightier enemies.

These enemies attacked and overpowered them due to their violation of the covenant between them and God.

There came a time when God had no other reason for defending the nation of Israel, apart from for the sake of His name and His only faithful servant David.

This month, we ask God to defend this country, city, village and house, not for any other reason but for the sake of His name and the faithful people in it.

We ask Him not only to consider our unfaithfulness, but also the city that proclaims His name and defend it.

God should consider that we who are attacked and are about to be embarrassed with debtors, accusers, wayward choices are people called by His name.

He should not only save us for our sake, but for the sake of His name.

Amen.
