And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near–Hebrews 10:25 (NLT).
During this pandemic, many have forsaken Church meetings since majority were patterned to assume fellowship is only possible at Church premises where liturgy is observed and strangers meet around God.
The truth, however, is we all have lost meaning of what Church is and what it is about.
According to the word of God, the Church are individual believers. Jesus never asked us to exclusively meet in a designated building but rather said: where two or three meet I will be with them and that qualifies to be a fellowship.
Hebrews asks to never forsake fellowship, heaven doesn’t mind where we meet, but when we meet and why.
By when i don’t intend special and sacred days of meeting as some religions have venerated these days more than God Himself. The ‘when’ here is about that special time you have chosen to set apart for divine business.
The ‘why’ is that very reason you are meeting. Are you meeting for prayer, thanksgiving, Bible study or outreach ministry?
Why you are meeting, Heaven is interested in the ‘when’… and wants to know when you will make time for God so that He can involve Himself in your affairs and heaven is interested in the ‘why’.
This month’s verse reminds us not to be too busy for fellowship.
It asks us not to have excuses like “Church buildings are closed, therefore, we cannot fellowship.”
All these excuses are dismissed in the verse and we are called to fellowship at home, at work, and wherever we can make time.
The verse asks all of us to intend to fellowship.
