The day God passed the death sentence on the first couple – Adam and Eve – because of their disobedience, it was a disaster and a moment of reckoning. Unfortunately, this punishment was passed on to all their descendants, including you and me.
They thought God was joking when He told them not to eat from the tree of life (Gen 2:16-17). However, Satan whispered to Eve and probably said: “Firstly, God is so kind and full of mercy He will not punish you, go ahead and do it; secondly, God is not serious, nothing will happen to you, I was the chief choirmaster in Heaven until I was kicked out, so I know everything about God; lastly, if you eat of it and repent, God will certainly forgive you.”
The devil is still telling lies all the time; he is a serial liar! There is nothing good about him. This is how Jesus described the devil to those that disbelieved Him: “Ye are of your father the devil and the lusts of your father he will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him.
When he speaks a lie he speaks of his own; for he is a liar, and the father of it” (John 8:44). If Adam and Eve were smart, they would have challenged the devil with following questions: Why were you excommunicated from Heaven? What makes you think God does not keep his word?
As believers, we need to learn from Adam and Eve so we do not disobey what God has written in His word, the Bible. This is summarised in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only beloved Son that whoever believes on Him should not die but obtain eternal life.”
I want to lead you in accepting the Lord Jesus as your personal savior. Say these words: “Lord Jesus, I am a sinner. Forgive my sins. I surrender my life completely to you. I will serve you for the rest of my life. Amen.”
