In Matthew 4:23-25, we are given a picture of what Jesus’ ministry looked like when He walked Earth.
We see that He travelled throughout Galilee and taught in synagogues.

Synagogues were the known places where people gathered together regularly to hear the Word of God.

In the synagogue, Jesus specifically preached about the Good News of the Kingdom.

His message was accompanied with good acts like healing the sick.

“And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people”(Matthew 4:23).

Jesus was popular and well-known for His ministry. The Bible says news about Him spread all over Syria. In Jesus’ day, there was no electronic media like we have today.

That means the news spread purely by word of mouth. People who were already blessed by Him were telling other people.

He is the same
From this, it appears that Jesus healed every kind of suffering we see in our hospitals today.

The Word of God teaches us that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8).

So, whatever Jesus did in that time, we can believe, trust and have confidence that He is still doing in our day.

Jesus is still healing today. When He ascended into Heaven, He left us with His power.

He said whatever we ask in His name shall be done for us (John 14:13).

At the Cross
Scripture says that at the Cross, Jesus took up our pain, and carried our sorrows, and by His stripes we were healed.
Jesus bore all our grief, our sicknesses and our infirmity.

He died so we could be set free from the curse of sickness and disease that came into our world because of sin.
Jesus took it all upon Himself at the Cross.

“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53: 5).

When one is sick or suffering amongst us, we can pray for them in Jesus name and He will heal them.

The instruction we have in James 5:13 is that if any one amongst us is sick we should “call the elders of the Church to pray over them with oil in the name of the Lord”.

It says that the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well and the Lord will raise them up.

Just as Jesus fashioned His ministry when He walked the Earth, He has called us to do the same.

Prayer
Heavenly Father,
We thank you for sending your Son Jesus to show us the way of the Good News of the Kingdom.

We thank you that Jesus still heals us today. Father, it is in the name of Jesus that we pray for all who are sick or suffering from any condition, whether spiritual or physical.

We ask Lord, that they be healed this day in Jesus’ name and we thank you for healing them.

Amen.

May the death and resurrection of Christ bring healing to the sick.
