The president’s message was passed by minister of Gender, labour and social development Betty Amongi who represented him at the 40th priestly anniversary of Bishop Ordinary of Arua Diocese Rt Rev Sabino Ocan Odoki, at Ediofe Boys Primary School on October 28, 2023.
The president said the faith-based institutions supplement the government’s efforts to raise the people’s living standards by extending health and educational services nearer to the people.
He also applauded the Church for shaping the morals of society by condemning social evils like corruption, child abuse and sacrifices, early marriages, and sexual perversion, among others.
President Museveni said the Church should learn from the example of Jesus Christ who healed different physical ailments and earned his bread by working alongside his father Joseph as a carpenter to uplift society’s spiritual and socio-economic transformation.
“Jesus was not just a passive bystander or spectator in the development process of the society. “He worked for both the spiritual and socio-economic uplift of the society.
“The benefits of development are socio-economic transformation which is enjoyed by all people regardless of the religious entity and you should not be limited to spiritual evangelism only,” the president said.
